Former Treasurer’s Office Employee Owes $855 for Theft

Tuesday, August 9, 2016

Columbus – Former Fairfield County Treasurer’s Office employee Christina Fox stole $855 from the treasurer’s vault for personal use, according to an audit of the county released today by Auditor of State Dave Yost.

In December 2015, the Fairfield National Bank received a deposit from the treasurer’s office that was $135 short. After being alerted by the bank, the treasurer’s office conducted an internal audit of cash in its vault and discovered another $720 was missing.

Fox confessed to investigators in April 2016 that she entered the vault and took cash from various pre-counted cash bundles to help make ends meet.

“Tough times only get worse when you steal from the public,” Auditor Yost said. “I have no doubt that Fox will be held accountable for her actions in a court of law.”

An $855 finding for recovery was issued against Fox. On May 20, 2016, she was indicted on one fifth-degree felony count of theft in office and two first-degree misdemeanor counts of passing bad checks. The treasurer’s office terminated her from employment earlier this year.
