Former Franklin County Agricultural Society Treasurer Stole $211,000

Tuesday, April 8, 2014

Columbus – Former Franklin County Agricultural Society Treasurer Dave Brobst wire transferred public funds to the family farm and John Deere, according to a financial audit released today by Auditor of State Dave Yost.

“Nothing runs like a Deere,” Auditor Yost said. “But that doesn’t give you the right to buy one on the public dime.”

The audit reviewed years ranging from 2010 – 2012. During that time, Brobst stole a total of $211,755 through written checks, unaccounted collections and wire transfers to his farm accounts and to John Deere for personal expenses.

With the addition of $8,301 in bank fees, a finding for recovery has been issued against Brobst in the amount of $220,056. Brobst repaid the funds over multiple installments, making the final repayment on March 3, 2014. These findings have been referred to the Franklin County Prosecutor.
