Columbus – A review of Tecumseh Local School District, as requested by the Ohio Department of Education, identified $1,117,581 in potential savings, according to a performance audit released today by Auditor of State Dave Yost. 

“Tecumseh Local School District is in a tough financial situation,” Auditor Yost said. “Our recommendations reflect that and give the district an objective view of its options.”  

The district may need to consider reducing teaching and support staffing to state minimum standards if savings cannot be achieved in other areas of operation. Eliminating 15 teaching and support positions would result in annual savings of $735,335.  

Auditors found that the district currently employs more clerical and monitoring staff than its peers. If the district eliminated five clerical positions and eight monitoring positions, it could save a combined $217,363 annually. 

Eliminating pension pickups for administrative staff would save the district $145,832 annually. The district could save an additional $9,824 annually by closing its current administrative office building and moving into the newly constructed academic buildings. 

A recommendation to subcontract psychological services to the Clark County Educational Service Center would allow the district to provide its current level of service and save $9,227 annually.
